Basic Fundamentals

Are Your Basics Fundamentals Strong!

If you're struggling to run stations or break 10 targets in succession your basic fundamentals probably need some work. Lets first identify some of our basic fundamentals.  Break point, foot position, hold point, eye-muzzle-line, insertion point or placement to the target, muzzle management (is the muzzle speed matching the target speed), gun mount, eyes on the target, are you holding the gun correctly, is your head on the stock and move on motion to name a few.

Now that you know some of the basic fundamentals, are you doing them correctly, and are you doing them every time you shoot.  If the answer is no, then you know where you should start to improve your game.

I've been asked how long will it take to learn the basics.  That's a tough question because everyone learns differently. I've always said if I can get a student to do what they should be doing behind the gun the target will break.  I've proven that time and time again.

Most people are looking for the target to break, and I understand that, but they need to really start looking for what is happening behind the gun not in front of it.  That's were the problem lies.

There are two steps to shooting well.

Step #1: Make the correct move to break the target, this happens when you use your basic fundamentals,
Step #2: Repeat Step #1 AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.

If you want consistency you must be consistent on what your doing behind the gun.  If you want change you have to make changes.
The first sign of insanity is to keep doing what you have always done and expect better results.
